Den gamla Fakta-Gruppen med min utmärkta f d mångåriga tekniska rådgivare Johan Ridderstolpe, Chalmers f d marinprofessor Anders Ulfvarsson, Lars Ångström m fl har bildat en ny forskningsgrupp, Baltic Marine Technical Investigation Group, BMTIG,  ( på svenska Brittiska Marinen TIG) ang Estonias mycket omtvistade förlisning som ägde rum den 28 september 1994. De kommer fram till att framförallt det 20 meter långa rivhålet på styrbords sidan av Estonias skrov, nära vattenytan, kan enbart ha slitits upp genom en fartygskollision:

"A new scientific investigation shows that the damage and holes discovered in 2019 on the starboard side of the Estonia did not occur at the bottom contact but before the sinking on the surface.

The investigation has been published in ten interim reports. All conclusions are supported by physical calculations. The models are reproducible with given parameters and meet the requirement for transparency. All basic data, calculations and mathematical formulas have been published and the investigation is therefore reproducible.

It has been distributed to universities and research institutes with ship engineering departments, scientific and marine journals and state accident investigation boards all over the world. All members of parliament in Sweden and Estonia have received it.

The investigation group includes Professor emeritus Anders Ulfvarsson, ship engineering expert at Chalmers University, Johan Ridderstolpe, marine engineer and former technical director of the Swedish Armed Forces at Muskö Base, and PhD Roland Karlsson, former accident investigator at the Swedish Accident Investigation Board.
